DAVE PEARSON

Dave Pearson (1937-2008) was a London born artist who spent most of his working life in Rossendale, Lancashire.

The writer and critic Edward Lucie-Smith wrote:“It’s not often nowadays that a really major artist slips through the net. In Dave Pearson’s case the fact is the more surprising since his major enterprises… were invariably both extremely ambitious and not at all difficult for ordinary spectators to construe and empathize with.”

The Bestiary series

Drawings, Paintings

Alongside the Byzantium paintings Dave started a prolonged series of work inspired by medieval bestiaries in which he made links between qualities associated with animals (especially predatory) and the human condition.

On some of these series he worked using photographic self-portraits, but most are oil paintings on canvas and board. They were painted in sub-groups with separate titles e.e The Beauty of the Beast, The Hyena, the Green Man, The Search for the Blue Wolf.
