VAN GOGH TRANSCRIPTIONS 1966 - 1973 |
||
From the mid-1960's Dave Pearson developed an obsession with Vincent Van Gogh, apparently after seeing 'Lust for Life'. For the next few years he produced a wide range of work based on Vincent's life and paintings. Dave recreated the Arles bedroom at his house in Haslingden; similarly, in papier-mache, the cornfields and crows of Provence. He also designed an inflatable yellow house - most of these 3-D pieces are now lost, but he also painted hundreds of paintings, etchings and drypoints, on this theme. Many of these were based around the 'Road to Tarascon' and the image of Vincent's yellow hat alight with candles. Dave also created (with Bob Frith who went on to form Horse + Bamboo Theatre Company) a semi-performed tableau of the Tarascon road, with himself and Frith dressed in yellow and blue costumes. |
