By 2002, with his health failing, Dave started a number of major series of works on paper. In part this was also because his studio in Haslingden was now full to the brim with his work and (although he continued to work on larger pieces at the Globe Arts Studios in Waterfoot and Stacksteads) as a result he was forced to concentrate on smaller pieces. The two main series were 'Encyclopaedia', based around quotations on may themes; and the 'Illness and Hospital' series based on his experience of his illness following an operation for bladder cancer. These works were mainly a collage of photography, text, drawing, acrylic paint and ink, on paper. At the Globe Studios he produced three-dimensional constructions using found objects, wood, nails and wool. |
