SAILING TO BYZANTIUM 1989 - 1991 & BYZANTIUM 1991 - 1997 |
||
'Sailing to Byzantium' was a series of mainly large-scale paintings inspired by the Yeats poem. It was followed by 'Byzantium', developing these themes. The paintings were in oil, often multi-sectional and shaped, and designed to combine in various ways to fit the architecture of the five large venues in which they were exhibited. The paintings were designd to completely cover the walls, and in one case the ceilings, of each venue. |
